A group of filmmakers is looking to everyday Americans to help fund a movie about the horrors of convicted murderer, Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

“Today we are launching the biggest ever crowd funding campaign to make a TV movie about the serial killer, abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell,” the filmmakers explain. “Dr. Kermit Gosnell is the most prolific serial killer in American History, but almost no one knows who he is.”

Filmmakers Phelim McAleer, Ann McElhinney and Magdalena Segieda, are looking to raise $2.1 million via Indiegogo to fund their “movie about America’s biggest serial killer, abortionist Kermit Gosnell and the media cover-up.”

Gosnell is currently serving multiple life sentences for the murder of infants after being found guilty of first degree murder in May.

Last week, the filmmakers — who were also behind “FrackNation” — began taking donations at Indiegogo to fund what they say is “their most important movie yet.”

“We’re going to make a TV film about Kermit Gosnell. Kermit Gosnell is the most prolific serial killer in history but almost no one knows who he is,” McAleer said in a video released in conjunction with the fundraising campaign. “The media have basically ignored his crime and his trial. He ran an abortion clinic in Philadelphia where he delivered live, viable babies, and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors.”

According to the filmmakers, the media’s apparent disinterest in the Gosnell trial was a disgrace.

“The mainstream media or Hollywood didn’t think this is a story. Gosnell killed more people than Gary Ridgway, John Wayne Gacy, the Zodiac killer, and Ted Bundy combined,” McElhinney said. “In a 30 year killing spree it is thought he killed many thousands of babies.”

“And yet the mainstream media or Hollywood don’t think this is a national story. The same media that gave us daily updates on Jodi Arias who was on trial at the same time as Gosnell for killing her boyfriend — just one person. Hollywood thinks the Jodi Arias story is so important they have already made a TV movie about her, which has been shown multiple times,” Segieda added.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that McAleer and his team originally planned to use Kickstarter for it campaign, however the fundraising outfit wanted to make changes to their fundraising pitch and attached a “disclaimer” to their project acceptance saying that anything objectionable would result in its removal. At that point McAleer moved the fundraiser to Indiegogo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kickstarter said the disclaimer is not out of the ordinary.

As of publication the film had raised more than $161,000 since Friday.
