Congress is set to vote Friday on the $1.1 trillion spending bill, and some of that cash will be going to support global warming science.
NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will get an extra $1.3 billion and $325 million, respectively, in funding from the current draft of the omnibus bill. Much of that money which will go to supporting global warming science by measuring polar weather, direct climate research and boosting the budgets of both agencies.
NASA’s Earth Science Mission Directorate will be getting $1.9 billion under the agreement. The Earth Science Mission Directorate’s goal is to help NASA “meet the challenges of climate and environmental change.” The organization is responsible for global warming models which have proven to be inaccurate.
The Earth Science Directorate is the largest and fastest growing of any NASA science program, as its budget has increased by 63 percent over the last 8 years. Over the same time period, the general NASA budget grew only by 10.6 percent– just enough to account for inflation.
President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress consider expanding the directorate’s budget to be a political imperative. Obama has repeatedly attempted to cut other NASA directorates, such as Planetary Sciences and Exploration, so that money could be redirected to Earth Science.
Even global-warming alarmist Bill Nye the “Science Guy” has criticized Obama’s attempts to cut NASA’s space exploration and planetary science programs in favor of global warming. NASA’s planetary science program has previously held car washes and bake sales to gain political support to maintain funding.
This bill raises the budget for NOAA to $5.8 billion and includes funding for climate research.
Large amounts of funding for climate research are never audited and the actual amount spent on such research is unclear. The Environmental Protection Agency awarded $542 million to colleges that it failed to audit. In exchange for keeping EPA spending flat throughout 2016, Republicans have agreed not to use the “power of the purse” to block EPA rule-making.
The existing bill also pledges funding for the U.N.’s Green Climate Fund, which hands out money for green energy and “sustainable” development projects around the world. It also gives $170.7 million to the Clean Technology Fund, $49.9 million to the Strategic Climate Fund, and another $168.3 million to the Global Environment Facility.
The bill would also cut taxes $680 billion and lift the crude oil export ban, which would generate 300,000 jobs and boost the economy by $38 billion annually according to economists.
The spending boost means NASA is now set to spend $5.6 billion for science programs and only $4 billion for the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Space Launch System which will take America to Mars.
