Fifty-one illegal aliens, 47 of them being convicted criminals, were apprehended in Virginia and the Washington D.C. area, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Tuesday
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers carried out the operation from Sept. 18 to Sept. 23. Among those arrested by ICE were convicted rapists, pedophiles, and kidnappers.
The nationalities of those arrested spanned the globe, including individuals from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Jamaica, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, and South Korea.
“This is another example of our success in targeted, strategic operations based on our top priorities for removal,” said ERO Washington Field Office Director Yvonne Evans regarding the operation.
All 51 people arrested were men. One of the arrested individuals had a final order of removal issued against them in January, 2015, while another person was wanted because of an INTERPOL Red Notice.
INTERPOL is an international police entity which claims universal jurisdiction and is based in Lyon, France. “To seek the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action,” an INTERPOL Red Notice is issued.
This latest ICE operation announcement comes less than a week after the federal law enforcement body announced it had apprehended 36 fugitives, including 19 known human rights abusers.
