A woman nearly died in California Tuesday after her second trimester abortion went horribly wrong.

The 23-year old unidentified woman went to FPA Women’s Health abortion clinic in Bakersfield, Calif. for the procedure when she was four months pregnant, putting her faith in a doctor with a shady personal life and even worse medical record.

The woman’s uterus perforated during the abortion and she suffered a massive heart attack after she was taken to the nearby Adventist Hospital, onlooker Tim Palmquist told Operation Rescue. She received an emergency hysterectomy and her heart reportedly ceased beating for five minutes while she was in the emergency room.

WATCH:

“FPA has upped the ante in Bakersfield by expanding abortions into the second trimester, so we are upping the ante, too,” Operation Rescue President Troy Newman said. “We are filing a formal complaint against Donald Clyde Willis with the California Medical Board and will be seeking an emergency suspension of his medical license.”

Donald Willis, the doctor that performed the life-threatening abortion, not only has documented mental health issues, but has also attempted suicide. The woman is reportedly Willis’s sixth patient this year to need emergency care after a botched abortion.

The woman is currently in the Intensive Care Unit at Adventist Health.

FPA Women’s Health did not return The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
