The body of Sherin Mathews, a missing three-year-old girl, was confirmed by police Tuesday in Richardson, Texas after her father changed the story of her cause of death.

Police found a body in a culvert less than a mile from Mathew’s home Sunday, which was “most likely” hers. Police confirmed that the body was Mathews’ due to dental records. Her cause of death is not determined, reported DallasNews.

Mathew’s father, Wesley Mathews, 37, originally told police that she was missing Oct. 7 after he forced her to stand outside for refusing to drink her milk at 3 a.m., saying that since she was adopted from India they were trying to make her gain weight from routine feedings.

Mathews changed the story with his attorney Monday. Mathews claimed he tried to get Sherin to drink milk in the garage and she would not listen. He eventually “physically assisted” her to drink the milk, according to an arrest warrant.

He was arrested Monday for felony injury to a child.

His daughter reportedly began choking and coughing until her breathing slowed. After feeling her pulse, Mathews determined she was dead and admitted to removing her body from his home. He faces a charge of injury to a child, according to Richardson Sgt. Kevin Perlich.

Mathews is being held in jail on a $1 million bond. Sherin’s adoptive mother, Sini Mathews is not being charged.
