A recent study claims that doing facial yoga can make one look two years younger, according to a report published Thursday.

A study by Northwestern University published in a research letter for JAMA Dermatology claims doing certain facial muscle exercises for 20 weeks can make one look two years younger, according to a Daily Mail report. The researchers teamed up with Gary Sikorski, the creator of Happy Face Yoga, finding that puckering one’s lips and sucking in cheeks will increase the size of facial muscles, making cheeks appear fuller and firmer, and giving a more youthful appearance, reported Health.

Researchers conducted the study in 2013 and used 16 women between ages 40 and 65 years old who had skin damage from UV radiation and mild to moderate facial skin cell degeneration. The study encompassed 32 different facial workouts for 30-minute exercises for the first eight weeks at home.

From nine to 20 weeks into the study, the participants then practiced the exercises every other day. Following the completion of the research, doctors created before and after images and estimated their ages.

Prior to the study, the women, on average, looked 50.8 years old. Eight weeks in, they looked approximately 49.6 years old and after 20 weeks they looked around 48.1 years old.

“Facial attractiveness and youth are associated with a smooth, full facial contour, so even a modest improvement of facial contour is a win for patients,” said the lead author of the study, Dr. Murad Alam of Northwestern University. Murad described the exercises as non-invasive and non-toxic approaches to creating a more youthful appearance.

The women noted significant improvement in 18 out of 20 of their facial features after the study.
