Former President Barack Obama will return to fundraising in May with a special Beverly Hills, Calif., event to benefit Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

The May sixth event will feature Hollywood political donors like directors Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, actress Katie McGrath and studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, according to an event invitation obtained by Politico.

McCaskill tried to distance herself from former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, suggesting on Sunday the former first lady could not leave politics soon enough.

“For those of us [who] are in states that Trump won, we would really appreciate if [Hillary Clinton] would be more careful and show respect to every American voter and not just the ones who voted for her,” McCaskill said.

Accepting money from an out-of-state fundraiser would not work against [Clinton] since Republican challenger Josh Hawley also accepted donations from outside Missouri, McCaskill said.

“No, it’s basically based on the president’s schedule,” McCaskill added. “I think Mr. Hawley’s going to be — he’s already raising money all over the country. It’s what happens when you run for the United States Senate. He understands that.”

Recent polls show McCaskill with a slight two-point lead over Hawley, but RealClearPolitics poll averages classify the race as a toss-up. President Donald Trump won Missouri with 57 percent of the vote in 2016.

“Question for every red-state Democrat today: will they welcome Obama to their states and remind folks that they voted for his disastrous policies?” National Republican Senatorial Committee spokeswoman Katie Martin told St. Louis Post Dispatch.
