March is “Women’s History Month,” and to celebrate it the Democratic National Committee turned its Twitter feed over to New York Congresswoman and DNC Vice Chair Grace Meng for a tweet storm Tuesday.

Meng sent tweets to draw attention to “an important economic justice issue,” access to tampons for homeless women and prisoners.

Meng’s bill, the Menstrual Equity for All Act, would eliminate the sales tax on tampons and pads as well as require states to provide prisoners “as many tampons or pads as they need, whenever they need them—at no cost.” The bill also states “shelters should be able to use federal grant money to purchase tampons or pads.”

The reaction to Meng’s tweet storm was disbelief.
