Boarding passes and credit card records of longtime presidential adviser Roger Stone show him arriving in Miami, Florida after a two day trip to California on August 4, 2016, documents reviewed by The Daily Caller reveal.
Stone released the records to TheDC after a report from The Wall Street Journal claimed that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining an email he sent to former Trump campaign official Sam Nunberg claiming he met with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on August 4, 2016. ***
“I dined with Julian Assange last night,” Stone wrote in the email, according to WSJ.
Stone provided TheDC with a boarding pass, confirmed by Delta to WSJ to be authentic, along with a Jet Blue record showing a flight he took from JFK Airport in New York to Los Angeles International Airport on August 1, 2016. Stones’s credit card shows a $49.97 purchase he made at Izzy’s Deli in Santa Monica, California on August 2. Payments to Thrifty Car Rental, the London West Hollywood Hotel in Beverly Hills and baggage fees for Delta Airlines were made on the same card on August 3.
Stone provided TheDC a second boarding pass showing him boarding an overnight Delta Airlines flight from LAX to Miami, Florida on August 3. He arrived in the Sunshine State at 5:43 am ET on August 4, 2016, the day he sent the email reviewed by WSJ to Nunberg.
“It is not what you said you did, but what you actually did that matters,” Stone said in a statement to TheDC explaining that the email “was simply a continuation of the same joke I had sarcastically made to Nunberg as I ended a prior phone call with him, after it had dragged on for far too long.”
“At all times before, during and after both that phone call and the subsequent tongue-in-cheek email that made my ‘dinner with Assange’ into a running joke, I was firmly ensconced right here in the United States of America, nowhere near London, Assange or anything even resembling foreign soil.”
“Sam, being a neurotic, would sometimes call me dozens of times throughout the day. Late one Friday night, while I was trying to get him off the phone, he asked me if I had weekend plans,” the Reagan adviser continued. “I responded, ‘I think I’ll fly to London and have dinner with Julian Assange,’ adding ‘when I realized that Nunberg actually believed that I had flown to London, I simply milked the joke a little more in a subsequent email.'”
Accusations of collaboration with WikiLeaks have dogged Stone since he made statements in August 2016 that he was in “communication” with Assange and again in October 2016 that he had a “back channel” of communication with the WikiLeaks founder. Stone later clarified that he had communicated with someone at WikiLeaks via radio host Randy Credico, who confirmed previous statements made by Assange. Credico would go on to tell The Daily Beast that he was not Stone’s back channel to WikiLeaks.
Stone told previously told TheDC that his August 2016 twitter prediction, that “it will soon Podesta’s time in the barrel,” was “based on the January 2016 Panama Papers exposure of the Podesta brother’s Russian business dealings with oligarchs close to Putin in banking, gas and uranium.”
