Missouri GOP Gov. Eric Greitens’ wife believes the ex-husband of the woman at center of the sex scandal rattling the governor’s mansion stalked her.
Sheena Greitens gave a written testimony to a special committee of the Missouri legislator that details her beliefs both she and members of her immediate family were victims of harassment and spying for roughly two years. Greitens’ wife describes the levels to which the woman’s ex-husband went to contact, harass and even blackmail her family.
“He put real effort into this,” Sheena Greitens wrote in an April 6 letter the Washington Examiner obtained. “When I didn’t respond to his anonymous emails, he sent me a letter. When a letter to me didn’t produce the desired response, he contacted my parents. When letters didn’t satisfy him, he made his accusations public on Twitter. And finally, when targeting our family on social media didn’t fulfill his agenda, he secretly recorded his wife admitting to the affair and began shopping the audio tape to news outlets.”
Sheena Greitens did not put the name of the governor’s mistress’ ex-husband in the letter, due to a prior court determination granting the man anonymity.
The governor admitted having an affair with the woman, who used to be his hairdresser, in early January 2018. The mistress detailed their first sexual encounter in an audio recording her ex-husband took without her knowledge. The tape was then leaked to news outlets.
“He said: ‘I’ll make you feel better. I’ll make you feel good. Come downstairs. I want to show you how to do a proper pull-up.’ And I knew he was being sexual, and I still let him. And he used some sort of tape; I don’t what it was and taped my hands to these rings and then put a blindfold on me,” the mistress said in the recording.
Greitens, a former Navy SEAL, then reportedly took a picture of her as a form of blackmail in case she ever tried to go public, the woman said.
“He stepped back; I saw a flash through the blindfold, and he said: ‘you’re never going to mention my name, otherwise, there will be pictures of me everywhere,” the mistress recalled.
The governor has other problems. He was indicted in February on charges of first-degree felony in a Missouri circuit court for invasion of privacy. Greitens has repeatedly denied the charges and refuses to step down, despite calls for him to do so.
Greitens’ approval rating is still roughly 55 percent among Missouri Republicans, but only 34 percent of Missouri votes approve the governor’s job performance.
