French First Lady Compares Her Life In The Spotlight To Melania’s ‘Constrained’ White House Existence

During her recent visit to the United States, French first lady Brigitte Macron was struck by how different Melania Trump’s life in the White House is from her own in Paris’ Élysée Palace.

“[Melania was] actually really fun. We have the same sense of humor. We laugh a lot together,” Macron told Le Monde, which was translated and published by The Guardian.

Describing her American counterpart as “kind, charming, intelligent and very open,” the French first lady lamented the extreme scrutiny that comes with literally everything Melania does.

“She can’t even open a window at the White House. She can’t go outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. I go out every day in Paris,” said the 65-year-old Macron.

Compared with her own life in Paris, Mrs. Trump seldom gets to “live a normal life,” according to Macron.

“Everything is interpreted, over-interpreted,” said the French first lady. “[Melania is] someone who has a strong personality, but works hard to hide it. She laughs very easily, at everything, but shows it less than I do.”
