History buffs, art fans, and those looking to skip normal tourist attractions: Here are six of the craziest museums around the world you should definitely check out.
From a museum devoted to purposely bad art, to another that aims to reduce the stigma of toilets, here are the top six you should visit:
1.) Jeju Loveland on Jeju Island in South Korea
South Korea’s Museum of Sex and Health has a gallery called Jeju Loveland that features over 140 highly pornographic sculptures scattered around outside. The larger-than-life statues display masturbation and sex between humans and animals. Since the material is incredibly explicit, there is a separate waiting area for children while their parents can view some X-rated material, according to Travel Crazy Korea.
2.) The Cup Noodles Museum in Osaka, Japan
For everyone who ate ramen in college, this museum is perfect for you. The entire museum is dedicated to Momofuku Ando who first created Chicken Ramen in 1958. The museum includes an Instant Noodles Tunnel, a Noodle Theatre in the shape of a cup of ramen, and a “magical table” where ramen-fanatics can take quizzes about their instant noodle knowledge.
3.) Museum of Sex in New York City
The Museum of Sex in New York City is definitely not for those who are shy. The museum features many sex-related exhibits including “Fun Land” that features a jumping pit where you can bounce between oversized breasts, learn about the “Sex Lives of Animals,” and even imagine your favorite comic book characters naked in “Comics Stripped.”
4.) Sulabh International Museum of Toilets in New Delhi, IndiaIndia’s Sulabh International Museum of Toilets is dedicated to destroying the stigma of going to the bathroom. Viewers can observe toilets from around the world with collections stemming all the way back to 3000 B.C., according to the museum’s official website.
5.) The Museum of Bad Art in Somerville, Mass.
Everyone prefers different types of art, however, this museum is devoted to pieces that are simply terrible. The collections include “Poor Traits,” “Dopplehanger,” “Unlikely Landscape,” “In The Nood,” and even “Oozing My Religion,” according to their official website.
6.) The Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, Pa.
This Philadelphia museum is definitely not for those who are squeamish. The Mütter Museum has 25,000 medical artifacts in their collection including slides of Albert Einstein’s brain, former President Grover Cleveland’s jaw tumor, and a cast of a conjoined liver of Siamese twins, according to their website.
