Former Representative David Jolly and Representative Eric Swalwell joined MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle to discuss the 2018 midterm elections, during which the MSNBC host threw a little shade on the Democratic party.

Jolly first noted that, “Democrats are going to need to coalesce around a message.”

“I don’t know if I’ve heard a clear Democrat message,” Ruhle responded.

As they were conversing on the upcoming elections, they all agreed that Democrats need a common rallying message to fire up their base to show up come November.

When asked how the Democrats will perform in November, Jolly predicted that “Democrats will take the house and the reason why goes to a lot of what Steve was saying. You have right now 23 seats that have to flip. There are actually 23 Republican held seats in Congress in districts that Hillary Clinton won.”

“So if you look at all of the special elections since Trump got elected, Democrats have over performed, right?” he continued. “But the reality is those have been in supermajority Republican seats.”

In special elections during the Trump administration, Democrat candidates Doug Jones (Alabama) and Conor Lamb (Pennsylvania) both won in heavily favored Republican areas.
