Longtime Trump confidante Roger Stone suggested Thursday that President Trump’s pardon of conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza might send a signal about what he will do in response to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

“It has to be a signal to Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort and even Robert S. Mueller III,” Stone told The Washington Post. “Indict people for crimes that don’t pertain to Russian collusion and this is what could happen. The special counsel has awesome powers, as you know, but the president has even more awesome powers.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Dinesh D’Souza Tells Backstory Of His Pardon)

While Manafort has been indicted and awaits trial, Flynn pleaded guilty to a single count of lying to the FBI. Others, including 13 Russian nationals, have also been charged.

President Trump used his Twitter account on Thursday to announce his pardon of D’Souza for a federal charge of making illegal campaign contributions in 2014. “He was treated very unfairly by our government,” wrote Trump. (RELATED: Trump Pardons Dinesh D’Souza)

Throughout his presidency, Trump has been more than willing to use his presidential pardon power. The president has pardoned Scooter Libbey, former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight boxing champion. He has also expressed his willingness to consider pardoning former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Martha Stewart.
