CNN’s Chris Cuomo came to the defense of Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani after MSNBC host Joe Scarborough misrepresented his comments Monday morning.
Cuomo responded to Scarborough’s rant from “Morning Joe” conflating a sitting president’s immunity from getting indicted and the president’s ability to get away with murder.
Partisans going too far like this allow an escape hatch for Rudy/Trump. Rudy never said potus can kill. He was taking about process of removing potus. Impeachment first. By going too far you lose high ground that Rudy should never have used that example. Stick to truth! https://t.co/yL0j0Yj9br

“This is really, literally out of a tyrant’s playbook,” Scarborough said. “You pick the president’s sworn political enemy and then you put it out there about the shooting of him and you let the president’s followers know that Vladimir Putin could shoot his political rival and not be thrown in jail. Erdogan could do the same thing except this is in America.”
He added, “What if Eric Holder had said, ‘You know Barack Obama could shoot Rush Limbaugh, and he can’t be indicted.”
Giuliani stated this weekend that the president cannot be subpoenaed or indicted.
“If he shot James Comey, he’d be impeached the next day,” Giuliani specified to HuffPost over the weekend. “Impeach him, and then you can do whatever you want to do to him.”
Giuliani’s point was that a sitting president cannot be indicted, but it would be up to Congress to impeach the sitting president so that POTUS could face the legal process.
