Lawyer Seth Grossman won the Republican primary race in New Jersey’s 2nd District and will campaign against Democrat Jeff Van Drew to replace retiring GOP Rep. Frank LoBiondo.
The race was called at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, and with 90 percent of precincts reporting, Grossman won with 40 percent of the vote, Real Clear Politics reported.
With incumbent LoBiondo retiring after 24 years in Congress, Democrats wanted to flip New Jersey’s 2nd District in the upcoming midterm elections. Grossman, running on a platform to “forcefully” defend President Donald Trump’s agenda, beat out Sam Fiocchi, Hirsh Singh and Robert Turkavage to move on to the general, according to The News and Observer.
Grossman faces a tough opponent in Van Drew. The Democrat state senator is popular with his constituents, serving for 10 years in the state Senate. He served six years in the state Assembly before that.
