Independent U.S. Maine Sen. Angus King will face GOP candidate Eric Brakey and Democratic candidate Zak Ringelstein in the November 2018 elections after the two went uncontested in Tuesday’s primary elections.
Brakey, a Maine state senator, won Tuesday’s primary election for the U.S. Senate after his opponent was disqualified for fraudulently adding signatures to a petition allowing him to run for the seat. Brakey seeks to “drain the swamp,” shake up the status quo and give the power back to the people. Sitting Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican, endorsed Brakey.
“I am getting into this race to challenge Angus King, and I am getting into this race now because I understand that I am going to be an underdog candidate,” Brakey said ahead of the primaries, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Brakey also posted a video of himself dancing to the Harlem Shake semi-nude in August 2013.

Ringelstein also won Tuesday’s primary elections after running unopposed. Ringelstein’s campaign motto is “No Pacs or Lobbyists. Just People.” “We need to get big money out of politics immediately so that we can enact Medicare For All, defeat climate change, end the era of college debt, invest in our public schools, create living wage jobs, and prioritize the working class over big banks,” Ringelstein wrote on his campaign website. King grabbed the Senate seat in 2012 when former Sen. Olympia Snowe decided to forgo a re-election bid. King announced his bid for re-election on May 31. “This is not a time to walk away from the United States government,” he said at the announcement. “There is so much left to be done.”
