Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick says he has come to Christ while in prison and wants President Donald Trump to pardon him. According to Fox News, the Democratic mayor who is in the middle of a 28-year sentence on numerous corruption convictions, wrote on the Free Kwame Project webpage that his life has changed since being incarcerated almost a decade ago and he has experienced a spiritual transformation.

“By God’s grace, I have received a pardon from Him, through Christ Jesus. I pray that I will receive the opportunity for Pardon/Clemency from the President of the United States as well,” Kilpatrick says.

“Our country has always been the land of 2nd Chances.  I am hoping, confidently expecting, that I will have the opportunity to boldly move into the next season of my life; outside of these prison walls.”

The disgraced mayor was the focus of media attention when he was put on trial for racketeering, extortion and wire fraud. Hes been in jail for almost seven years now and was just transferred from an institution in Oklahoma to a minimum security penitentiary at New Jersey’s Fort Dix.

The federal Bureau of Prisons did not provide any details on why it decided to move Kilpatrick but in correspondence with the Associated Press stated that it assesses a variety of factors affecting prisoners, including health and security, when it transfers them.

Kilpatrick asked former President Barack Obama for a pardon but was turned down, according to the Detroit Free Press.
