Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan stated his belief that the American people are being misled by both the media and politicians for the separation of families on the border during an interview on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning.

“The American people need to understand that you’re being fed a falsehood here by many people in the media and the Hill, and it’s just really sad where we’re at as a country on this issue,” Homan stated.

“The president’s hands are tied. There is legislation, there is court decisions on this that limit how long we can detain children,” he went on. “Congress really can fix it. Congress is placing the blame. I’ve been doing this 34 years. Immigration has been a problem 34 years.”

ICE has faced immense scrutiny over the last week for separating adults and children who cross the U.S.-Mexico border together and are apprehended by law enforcement for trying to illegally enter the country.

A woman went on to defend ICE, saying, “rather than vilifying the men and women of ICE — rather than call us Nazis and racists — sit down, do your job and fix it. One change: let us detain the families. I want them to have their hearings too. I want them to see a judge, but when we release them, they don’t show up in court.”
