President Donald Trump announced he would be traveling to South Carolina on Monday to support Republican Gov. Henry McMaster before the state’s runoff election in a Thursday tweet.

McMaster, who succeeded current U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, was up against four other Republican candidates in the important June 12 primary election, but failed to receive the necessary 50 percent of the vote, despite an endorsement from Trump before the election.

Despite facing a runoff, Trump announced he would travel to South Carolina to make a campaign speech for the current governor, crediting McMaster for being “loyal” and saying he looks forward to “reciprocating.”

The tweet was followed up by another from Trump, further explaining why he is endorsing McMaster, saying “He is tough on Crime and Strong on Borders, Healthcare, the Military and our great Vets. Henry has my full and complete Endrosement!” (RELATED: South Carolina Governor McMaster Faces GOP Primary Runoff)

The winner of the June 26 runoff will take on liberal candidate Rep. James Smith, who won the Democratic primary, in the Nov. 6 general election.
