A South Carolina pro-Trump congressional candidate, Katie Arrington, will rejoin her race in July once she has recovered from injuries related to a car crash on Friday.

“There is no reason to think she won’t be able to walk,” Evert Ericksson, a surgeon at the Medical University of South Carolina, said Monday during a press conference at the hospital. “I expect her to make a very quick recovery from this.”

Arrington, 47, a Republican state legislator and the GOP nominee in the state’s first congressional district, is expected to return to the campaign trail in two weeks, officials said Monday, according to Reuters.

“Katie may require one more minimal procedure, but that is not certain at this time,” said a tweet Sunday night from Arrington’s Twitter account.

Arrington was a passenger in a car when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction struck the car, fracturing her back, breaking several ribs, and causing other minor related injuries. The driver of the other car was killed in the crash.

Arrington beat incumbent GOP Rep. Mark Sanford in a primary on June 12. President Donald Trump tweeted in support of her on the day of the election. (RELATED: Katie Arrington Defeats Mark Sanford In GOP Primary Hours After Trump Endorsement)

Her Democratic opponent in the upcoming fall election, Joe Cunningham, said in a statement that he and his wife were praying for Arrington’s recovery and that he was suspending campaign activities until further notice.
