President Donald Trump interviewed four potential nominees Monday morning to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, he revealed in a joint appearance with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

“We had a great talk. In the morning during the morning, I interviewed and met with four potential justices of our great Supreme Court. They are outstanding people. They are really incredible people,” Trump said.

Trump reiterated his commitment to revealing his nominee on July 9 and noted he will interview two or three more potential candidates. The president has said previously he is considering two women for the post.

Multiple sources told The Daily Caller News Foundation early Monday that Trump has narrowed his list for the position to Judges Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Sources involved in the process said an anti-Kavanaugh whisper campaign has been underway since the news of Kennedy’s retirement broke, with concerns about his record and Bush ties being touted.

Kavanaugh has spent some two decades in Washington’s rarefied legal circles, first in private practice, then in the George W. Bush White House, and finally on the appeals court. As such, he has well-placed allies around the capital.
