Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and liberal radio host Chris Hahn got into a heated debate over whether Page betrayed his country by meeting with a Russian spy in 2013.

Page encountered a cell of Russian spies in New York City in 2013, although Page denies knowing that he ever met with a spy and says he only shared lectures from a course he was teaching at New York University at the time. “You passed documents to a Russian spy — did you betray your country, what were your documents, and why aren’t you in prison right now if that was a felony?” Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked Page during a Friday night interview.

“This is complete spin,” Page told The Daily Caller co-founder. “I was teaching a course at New York University called ‘Energy in the World’ in the spring semester of 2013 and I had a coffee with a diplomat from the Russian consulate and I showed him — ”

“He was a spy,” Hahn interjected. “He was a spy!”

” — course materials,” Page finished.

Hahn was unsatisfied with Page’s defense, insisting that Russians routinely request documents from “useful idiots” like Page.

“I tend not to hang out with Russian spies because I’m trying to get a gas deal with their nationally-owned gas syndicate,” Hahn continued. “I think people who love this country tend to love this country.”

Carlson pushed back on the notion that Page doesn’t love the United States, noting that he attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

“I love my country,” Page asserted.
