“It’s a great report,” University of Maryland professor Phil Swagel said. “It does seem like there’s more room to run in this recovery, and that looks very good to me.”

“Feel free to credit the Trump administration,” host Joe Kernen said before kicking it to CNBC editor Rick Santelli.

“I’ll let the numbers speak for themselves,” Santelli responded, noting that he’s “disappointed” in the lack of wage growth, but added, “I’m very excited about the jump in the labor force participation rate, that’s the whole bottle of wax, that’s the real game.”

“That is the key to really growing this economy in a big way,” Santelli said.

“What do you want me to say?” CNBC reporter Steve Liesman said. “Very strong number. Very strong number.”

UPDATE: An earlier version of this report incorrectly identified CNBC editor Rick Santelli as CNBC contributor Jared Bernstein.
