Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged U.S. allies to cut off funding to Iran on Thursday, as the U.S. pushes for the country to curb its nuclear programs.

“We ask our allies & partners to join our economic pressure campaign against Iran’s regime. We must cut off all funding the regime uses to fund terrorism & proxy wars,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter. “There’s no telling when Iran may try to foment terrorism, violence & instability in one of our countries next.”

The U.S. reimposed sanctions on Iran in May and pulled out of the nuclear accord in ongoing efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear development. Pompeo’s remarks come after his trip to Brussels on Wednesday, where he encouraged North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies to fight against the Iranian regime, according to Reuters. (RELATED: Trump Threatens Countries With Sanctions If They Import Any Iranian Oil)

President Donald Trump also acknowledged the precarious relationship between the U.S. and Iran and urged them to come to the table as he uses their declining economy as leverage in peace talks.

“I know they’re having a lot of problems and their economy is collapsing, but I will tell you this — at a certain point they’re going to call me and they’re going to say let’s make a deal,” Trump said at a NATO news conference Thursday. “And we’ll make a deal. But they’re feeling a lot of pain right now.”
