A Bustle author wrote in a Monday article that her abortion was the least traumatic medical procedure she’s ever had.
“When I walked into the room I had my abortion in, I was shocked at how simple and how comfortable it was … my abortion was easily the least traumatic medical procedure I have ever had,” Bustle author Danielle Campoamor wrote Monday.
Campoamor wasn’t alone in feeling like her abortion was no big deal.
“I woke up, and it felt like I was getting a pedicure with a bunch of gal pals,” 27-year-old Sriya S. told Bustle. Sriya aborted her unborn baby at a Planned Parenthood in New York City and went under general anesthesia for the procedure.
Thirty-year-old Coloradan Alex Ferencz said the abortion clinic she went to was the “same as any OB-GYN exam room.” She went to a clinic to get abortion pills and then self-administered the abortion-inducing medication.
“Mounting clinical evidence has shown that better design of space along with a pleasant caring staff can improve not only a client’s health, but also their morale,” Melissa S. Grant, chief operations officer of Carafem, an abortion and birth control services provider, told Bustle.
“What’s consistent across all spaces is that the clinic staff works to make them warm and inviting.” Dr. Ghazaleh Moayedi, an OB-GYN in Hawaii, also told Bustle.
Carafem offers abortions at its two locations in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Atlanta, Georgia.
“They’re sterile, they’re clean,” Dr. Colleen Denny, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, said about abortion operating rooms. More than 220 abortion clinics between 2008 and 2016 — including six WWH clinics — were cited for 1,400 health and safety violations, according to a 2016 Americans United For Life (AUL) report.
