President Donald Trump hosted some of America’s most powerful business leaders at the White House Thursday for the Pledge to America’s Workers Event.

Business leaders and industry representatives gathered to announce their pledges to increase job training and hiring programs. Millions of new career advancement and training programs were announced over a broad swath of industries during the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Trump recognized the business leaders, saying, “We’re really especially grateful to be joined today by the top CEOs, union leaders, trade associations and educators from all around the country. These are the biggest. These are the best. These are the most talented,” Trump added, “Today, 23 companies and associations are pledging to expand apprenticeships.”

After signing an executive order, Trump went down the line of business leaders to greet them individually. One of the representatives from Microsoft had a private message to deliver to the president.

Chris Cortez told Trump, “Mr. President, on behalf of Microsoft — 10,000 opportunities — I’m really proud to be their representative.” Cortez then dropped his mic and leaned in to tell Trump something personal. A hot mic picked up what he said.

“I served 33 years in the Marines,” Cortez told Trump in hushed tones.

“Whoa, that’s fantastic,” Trump responded.

“I served with John Kelly and Jim Mattis,” Cortez continued, “and you got two one good ones.”

Trump shook the man’s hand saying, “Very good. You’re right. They’re great. They’re great. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

General John Kelly signed up for the Marines in 1970 and now serves as Trump’s chief of staff; General James Mattis joined the Marines in1969 and now serves as U.S. secretary of defense.
