A Utah man was found dead after flying a plane into his own home a little after 2:30 a.m., although his wife and an unidentified child were found safe Monday.

The pilot was identified as Duane Youd, 47, who was sent to jail for domestic violence charges Sunday. Police released him from jail around midnight, when he asked if he could retrieve some belongings from his home, Payson Police Sgt. Naoemi Sandoval said, according to KUTV.

Officials said there was no fight prior to the crash. Youd’s wife and a juvenile were inside the home during the crash, but were able to escape the scene. (RELATED: Human Remains Found At Site Of Stolen Horizon Air Plane Crash Near Seattle)

“There was a significant fireball, so there’s not a whole lot left of the plane itself,” Sandoval told KTLA 5. “Obviously they were very shook up over what had happened but they weren’t physically injured.”

Youd flew a Cessna Citation 525, which was a private jet. Public records show that Youd and his wife bought the house in 2017.

The airplane flew out of a Utah airport, though authorities have not divulged specifics.
