The son of Republican House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte condemned his father on Monday for “political grandstanding” that resulted in the firing of FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok.

“I’m deeply embarrassed that Peter Strzok’s career was ruined by my father’s political grandstanding. That committee hearing was a low point for Congress,” Bobby Goodlatte tweeted. “Thank you for your service sir. You are a patriot.”

Just prior to Bobby’s tweet, it was announced that Strzok was fired the previous Friday over text messages he sent to his mistress and coworker Lisa Page during the 2016 presidential election, which revealed significant bias against then-candidate Donald Trump. (RELATED: Goodlatte Immigration Bill Fails In The House)

The Virginia congressman was a frequent critic of Strzok. He most notably clashed with the former FBI agent during an Oversight Committee hearing in July, where he threatened Strzok with contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions.

Bobby also boasted on Twitter that he had contributed the maximum dollar amount allowed for political donations to the Democrat running for his father’s congressional seat.

“I just gave the maximum allowed donation to Jennifer Lewis, a democrat running for my father’s congressional seat,” he wrote. “I’ve also gotten 5 other folks to commit to donate the max. 2018 is the year to flip districts — let’s do this!”

Bobby is an angel investor based out of San Francisco, according to his Twitter bio. His father announced in November 2017 that he will be retiring at the end of his term and will not be seeking reelection.
