A “Morning Joe” panel mocked Gov. Andrew Cuomo for saying that America was “never really great” and his subsequent response to being called out by the president on Thursday morning.

WATCH:

The segment began with fill-in host Willie Geist introducing and airing the clip of Cuomo from yesterday. They went on to show President Trump’s condemnation of Cuomo, followed by the Governor’s response to the president.

Geist then said, “The governor’s press secretary issued a statement that reads in part, ‘The governor believes America is great.’ Never a good day when you have to come out and explicitly clarify that you believe America is great.” (RELATED: ‘Total Meltdown!’ – President Trump Delivers Sharp Rebuke To Andrew Cuomo Over Anti-America Comment)

Everyone on the panel started laughing during Geist’s commentary on the statement from Cuomo’s press secretary.

“But as you listen to that, I guess you could say that you sort of know what he was trying to say. We have a long way to go to reach the ideals of the Constitution. A better way to say that. Boy, if you want to put that in an ad, and if you wanted to create an enemy for President Trump to stand as an avatar for the Left, there you have it,” he continued.

“Also, that poorly formulated tweet that you note kind of glosses over all of the things that happened in the 20th century. You know, such as liberating Europe from the Nazis, etc. The Statue of Liberty, all of the immigrants who have been welcomed to our shores,” MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt added. (RELATED: Gov. Geist interrupted and stated, “That was a good one,” as Hunt cited liberating Europe as a positive thing that in the last century. He added, “I thought D-Day was a good one.”
