Arizona Sen. John McCain’s family announced that he will discontinue medical treatment for his brain cancer, indicating he could be entering his final days.

“The progress of disease and inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” the family said in its statement, adding “with his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.” McCain announced in July 2017 that he was diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017 and underwent aggressive medical treatment.

McCain continued to carry out his senatorial duties while undergoing treatment.

“My family is deeply appreciative of all the love and generosity you have shown us during this past year. Thank you for all your continued support and prayers. We could not have made it this far without you – you’ve given us strength to carry on,” his daughter Meghan McCain said on Twitter after the announcement.
