House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned voters that if Democrats won the house in November, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi would be the next speaker of the House of Representatives.

“It should scare all Americans. If Democrats won the majority I believe Nancy would be speaker, but that also means Maxine Waters would be chair of financial services, in charge of your bank and insurance across this nation,” McCarthy said on a Fox News interview Wednesday when asked what he thought about Pelosi as the possible next speaker.

Pelosi has previously said she thinks she’ll be the next speaker of the House, despite Democratic Reps. Kathleen Rice of New York, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Filemon Vela of Texas and Tim Ryan of Ohio, who have all called for Pelosi to relinquish her leadership role.

McCarthy hopes to become the next speaker of the House if Republicans can maintain the majority after the Nov. 6 midterm elections, but some Republicans have said they would like to see Majority Whip Steve Scalise or House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan in the position.
