Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh broke his silence after a woman alleged that he sexually assaulted her during his high school years, in a Monday statement.
“This is a completely false allegation. I have never done anything like what the accuser describes—to her or to anyone,” Kavanaugh said. “Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday.”
The judge continued, “I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the Committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity.” (RELATED: White House Backs Hearings For Kavanaugh Accuser)
The accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, speaking through a lawyer, said she would be willing to appear before the committee and testify. Ford alleges that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her while they were both at a house party as teenagers in their high school years. Kavanaugh issued a statement flatly denying the allegation and the White House continues to support his nomination.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway encouraged Ford’s testimony Monday saying “allowing this woman to be heard in sworn testimony, allowing Judge Kavanaugh to be heard in sworn testimony about these specific allegations would be added to the very considerable mountain of evidence and considerations that folks will have when they weigh whether or not to vote for Judge Kavanaugh to be on the Supreme Court.”
