President Donald Trump says he feels “terribly” for the family of Brett Kavanaugh after a sexual misconduct allegation was made against him from 36 years ago.
Trump mentioned Kavanaugh’s wife of nearly 15 years, Ashley Estes Kavanaugh, and two young daughters during a joint press conference at the White House after making remarks about the allegations.
“Honestly, I feel terribly for him, for his wife, who is an incredible lovely woman, and for his beautiful young daughters,” Trump said. “I feel terribly for them.”

Kavanaugh has been accused by Christine Blasey Ford of sexually assaulting her 36 years ago when they were both teenagers.
Kavanaugh has forcefully denied the allegations, as have others who were present where the incident allegedly occurred. Friends and former girlfriends of Kavanaugh have come to his character defense, while friends of Ford have said she discussed the encounter with them before his nomination.
Trump called Kavanaugh “impeccable,” saying “I feel so badly for him that he is going through this, to be honest with you. I feel so badly for him. This is not a man that deserves this.”
Trump criticized Senate Democrats for withholding information pertaining to the allegations while Kavanaugh was going through hundreds of hours of confirmation hearings and interviews. Ford has said she did not want to go on the record with the allegation until Sunday.
“It should have been brought up long ago. That’s what you have hearings for. You don’t wait until the hearing is over and then all of a sudden bring it up. When Sen. Feinstein sat with Judge Kavanaugh for a long period of time, a long, long meeting, she had this letter,” Trump said, “Why didn’t she bring it up?”
Trump called Democrats “lousy politicians” who are “very good on obstruction.”
In conclusion, Trump called for both Kavanaugh and Ford to testify. “Hopefully, the woman will come forward, state her case. He will state his case — before representatives of the United States Senate. And then they will vote.”
