An education activist group is asking a South Carolina school board member to resign for sharing an “offensive” Facebook post surrounding Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual assault accusation, though the member has claimed she did not intentionally share the post.

Horry County school board member Sherrie Todd shared a post Tuesday evening that said:

“I’ve already decided that whoever wins the Democrat Nomination in 2020 sexually assaulted me 40 years ago.”

“The Horry County Alliance for Educational Justice [HCAEJ] finds this post to be completely offensive, inappropriate, insensitive, and beneath someone who has the responsibility of caring for the most vulnerable citizens of Horry County: our children,” a screenshot from Facebook user Asafo Shaka Sekou of the statement by HCAEJ released Friday said. “Mrs. Todd’s endorsement of this post betrays her gross lack of consideration of the lived reality of our fellow citizens, including children, who are survivors of sexual assault.”

Fellow board member David Cox defended Todd, according to a screenshot of a text message on Facebook user Ashlyn Hunt’s page.

“It’s a joke, that’s all,” Cox said. “A dig at the lady who is accusing judge Kavanaugh of unwanted groping when they were IN HIGH SCHOOL. Where has she been these past three decades? Why now?”

Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of forcing himself onto her at party when they were in high school. Kavanaugh denied the allegation and 65 women came out in support of the Supreme Court nominee’s character. (RELATED: An Unnamed #MeToo Accuser Says Brett Kavanaugh Tried To Force Himself Onto Her)

Cox added that those offended by Todd’s choice to share the post should block her.

Todd apologized on Facebook, stating that it was “completely out of my character” and that she had several children at her house during Hurricane Florence.

She is unsure how the post got on her page. Her daughter or granddaughter might have used her iPad and accidentally shared the post, Todd told The Sun News over the phone Thursday.

“In spite of Mrs. Todd offering what we consider a half-hearted apology that ultimately passed the responsibility to others for the post being shared, we call Mrs. Todd’s judgment, sensitivity, and integrity as a school board member into question,” HCAEJ said in the release. “Therefore, we find the appropriate course of action Mrs. Todd should take is to resign from the school board immediately.”

“I personally feel that the HCAEJ need[s] to back off and remember it is okay to have a sense of humor and social media is suppose[d] to be for adults,” Facebook user Susan Joles Jeffords said in a post Thursday.

HCAEJ was formed after they felt that it was unjust for a teen to be sent to an alternative school. The teen had allegedly made threats to shoot up a school, though the charges were later dropped, My Horry News reported Nov. 2, 2017.

“We are an organization that is willing to get out on the streets,” HCAEJ Vice President Dameion Fowler said to My Horry News. “If we can’t cooperate with the school district, then we’re willing to shut the whole thing down.”

Horry County Schools and HCAEJ did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment. Sekou’s posts surrounding the incident are no longer accessible on Facebook at the time of publication.
