End of an error: Tebow released by N.Y. Jets [VIDEO]

In the words of Jeff Bridges’ Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, “Well, that didn’t pan out.”

The New York Jets ended the one-year Tim Tebow Era this morning, releasing the controversial quarterback and ridding themselves of unneeded media attention and a quarterback that can’t throw (insert Mark Sanchez joke here).

After drafting West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith in the NFL Draft over the weekend, the Jets had something of a quarterback overload.

The Jets will likely have to keep oft-maligned Mark Sanchez because of his lofty fully-guaranteed contract and decided to part ways with Tebow, who likely would not have seen much playing time anyways.

After he only threw eight passes in 2012 and with Smith in the fold (reports are he knows how to throw a football in the forward direction), you could put Tebow’s over/under for pass attempts in 2013 in the negatives.

Not sure if any NFL would touch Tebow right now. Never cracking the starting lineup with Mark Sanchez above you on the depth chart doesn’t exactly scream “hire this man!”

We do know that at least one Arena Football team, the Orlando Predators, have publicly noted their interest in Tebow, and it may be his best way to get back to the NFL. Play against lesser competition in a fast-paced game, finally work out that awful throwing motion and maybe he’ll get a call back to return to the big leagues.
