Uh, excuse me? MSNBC regular and Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank said on “Hardball w/ Chris Matthews” Tuesday that conservative Republican House members “shot their whole load” by opposing Speaker John Boehner without enough votes.
“It’s the largest rebuke of a speaker, from his own party at least, in a century,” Milbank said. “But you have to remember, two years ago, depending on how you count, 12, 16 who had a rebellion as well. For the uninitiated, “shooting one’s load” is a euphemism for male ejaculation. Multiple Internet dictionaries list only a vulgar definition for the phrase, heard more often in Judd Apatow films than on national television. It’s likely Milbank meant the Republicans “shot their wad,” which has both vulgar and sanitized applications.
“But didn’t they shoot a line across [Boehner’s] bow…?” Chris Matthews asked, using a more apt shooting metaphor.
“I think that was their intention,” Milbank said. “But they shot and they missed.”
