The mission to recapture Sinaloa Cartel boss Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman included members of the U.S. Delta commando group, a report from SOFREP reveals. Members of U.S. Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) were present along with U.S. Marshals in the mission dubbed “Operation Black Swan.”

In addition to members of the elite Delta Force, Mexican authorities received advice from U.S. Marshals as they tracked down the drug kingpin, according to the SOFREP report.

Mexican Marines, who have received significant support from the U.S. military, spearheaded the operation that ultimately led to El Chapo’s capture (watch it here). Local authorities in Mexico are known for their corruption and being beholden to drug cartels which is why Mexican Navy Marines were entrusted with finding El Chapo.

The raid took place in the Mexican city of Los Mochis. El Chapo managed to briefly evade capture before being tracked down to a motel not far from the location of the Mexican Marine raid. “At least five suspects were killed in the raid on the house on Friday and one Mexican marine was injured. Six others were arrested,” according to Fusion. The presence of JSOC operatives in a mission is considered to be ” a sort of lucky talisman” by federal law enforcement agencies according to the SOFREP report.
