Blake Griffin Hammered With Suspension, Fined Almost $1 Million

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin has been suspended for four games after punching the team’s equipment manager.

Griffin, who is expected to be out for several weeks because of an injury to his hand, will also be fined $859,442 for his actions and subsequent suspension, according to ESPN. An incident at a bar in Canada spiraled out of control and led to Griffin punching the team’s equipment manager after tempers flared. (RELATED: NBA All-Star Breaks Hand After Punching Equipment Manager)

The suspension for the NBA star will only begin after he is healthy and cleared to play so it could be two months before he’s on the court again. The money from his fine with also be donated to charities in the Los Angeles area. A joint statement from coach Doc Rivers and owner Steve Ballmer states in part, “We have made it clear that this conduct has no place in the Clippers organization. Blake is remorseful and has apologized for his actions. He is a valued member of our Clippers family and we support him as he rejoins the team. He understands his actions have consequences, and is eager to get back to work with his teammates, the organization and Clipper Nation which starts immediately with rehab, appearances and attendance at games.”
