Barack Obama will not be attending Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s funeral on Saturday, according to White House press secretary Josh Earnest.
The Daily Mail reports that Barack and Michelle Obama will instead pay their respects to Scalia on Friday while he lies in repose at the Supreme Court.
Taking the president’s place at the funeral will be Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Earnest told reporters.
According to The Daily Mail, it was not immediately clear why Obama would not be attending the formal funeral on Saturday.
No word yet if it is because of a golfing conflict.
