A man in small-town Canada stripped down to his birthday suit at a gas station late last month and began drenching his man parts with milk — apparently because he had somehow managed to squirt some bear spray down his pants.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on Aug. 24 in Penticton, “a beautifully authentic city nestled between Lake Okanagan and Skaha Lake in British Columbia.”
The unidentified man was completely naked when police arrived on the scene, according to CTV News, a Canadian television station.
“He was in excruciating pain and vigorously using his shirt to scrub his genitals with homogenized milk in an attempt to relieve the pain,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Don Wrigglesworth told CTV.
The man told police that three unidentified men had attacked him. However, presumably after carefully examining the affected area, police concluded that the pattern of the bear spray “was consistent with the alleged victim carrying his own can of bear spray and it went off unintentionally.”
At that point, the man stopped cooperating with the investigation.
Interestingly, a few hours later, police showed up at a home in the same area and found five people suffering on the ground in great pain because, they said, they had also been attacked with bear spray.
The five people said the attack involved an unknown assailant who was angry over an unpaid debt. Otherwise, they, too, refused to cooperate with the police investigation.
It is commonly believed that milk can be used to neutralize the burn of pepper spray. Bear spray, like pepper spray, contains tremendously high levels of capsicum — the stuff that provides the hotness of cayenne peppers. Milk contains a protein which, it is said, dissolves the capsicum.
Possibly, the naked man at the gas station was thinking that the antidote for pepper spray could work against bear spray when he doused his genitals with milk right there, in the nude, at the gas station at 2 a.m.
Bear sightings in the late summer are fairly common in and around the town of Penticton (pop.: 32,877), according to the Penticton Western News.
Bears are a general menace in Canada.
