America’s most colorful governor Paul LePage of Maine is making headlines once again after saying in an interview he wants Donald Trump to rule like an “authoritarian” so the country can have law and order.

The Republican governor made his eye-opening comments on a local Maine radio show Tuesday. According to LePage, he wants Trump to rule with stronger power in order to counteract the “autocrat[ic]” presidency of Barack Obama, which has resulted in “anarchy.”

“Sometimes I wondered that our Constitution is not only broken, but we need a Donald Trump to show some authoritarian power in our country and bring back the rule of law,” LePage said, The Huffington Post reports. “Because we’ve had eight years of a president, he’s an autocrat, he just does it on his own, he ignores Congress and every single day, we’re slipping into anarchy.”

As The Huffington Post eagerly notes, critics of Trump have attacked him for having authoritarian tendencies, which appears to be a good quality to Governor LePage.

LePage has had a year full of making statements which have caused controversy within his state and among the press. In January, he claimed out-of-state drug dealers with nicknames like “D-Money” were invading the state and impregnating white women. He later clarified he just meant Maine women. In August, he returned to the issue of Maine’s drug problem and said that he has proof that most of its drug dealers are minorities. That prompted a row with state lawmakers who claimed the governor’s comments were racially-charged, an accusation that motivated LePage to call a Democratic legislator a “cocksucker” via voicemail. LePage has been called the “Trump before Trump,” a notion which he has acknowledged himself.
