A staffer in President Donald Trump’s administration called for Republican groups to work with high school students in order to get younger students interested in politics during a discussion at the Conservative Political Action Conference Friday afternoon.

David Blair was listed as an official in the Trump administration in CPAC materials, but his personal LinkedIn profile only lists his most recent post as national director of youth for Trump.

“We do have to reach out to younger people,” Blair asserted, responding to an older member of the audience who asked about high school outreach.

“Everyone thinks that a lot of college students are liberal, they are only apathetic. Your typical high school student only cares about themselves, they usually don’t think to care about political issues.”

“They see themselves in a bubble, and they don’t get political until they start getting a paycheck,” Blair joked.

“High school kids are very receptive to the message of conservatism. They just never hear it. The first thing they hear is pretty radically on the opposing viewpoint, and by the time college conservative groups get them, they already heard their professors and fellow students.”

Blair worked as director of the Youth Leadership School with the conservative-leaning Leadership Institute before he joined the Trump campaign.

Students for Trump relied on student ambassadors at college campuses, and provided training and online assistance. Members of the program needed to obtain funding and other considerations on their own, according to an interview with a student ambassador in August.
