FBI Director James Comey said Wednesday that he is “very, very interested” in finding out if FBI agents leaked information about the Hillary Clinton email investigation to former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani or anyone else just before the election.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy asked Comey about Giuliani’s comments prior to the election that he had inside knowledge about the email investigation.

“During your investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-mails, a number of surrogates like Rudy Giuliani claimed to have a pipeline to the FBI,” Leahy said.

“Did anybody in the FBI during this 2016 campaign have contact with Rudy Giuliani about the Clinton investigation?” he asked.

“I don’t know yet, but if I find out that people were leaking information about our investigations whether to reporters or to private parties, there will be severe consequences,” said Comey.

Asked whether he knows of any other leaks from the FBI to former agents, Comey said he did not know.

“It’s a matter that I’m very, very interested in,” he said.

Giuliani advised Trump during the campaign and is now an unpaid White House cyber security adviser.
