According to Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the $1,000 bonuses that are a result of the President Trump’s economic policy decisions will not make much of an impact on the middle class.
More than 250 companies have announced similar raises for employees. The former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee made the comment while appearing at a town hall at Florida Atlantic University. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was also in attendance and referred to the bonuses as mere “crumbs.”
“Frankly, if you look at the bonuses, which I haven’t heard of a corporate bonus more than $1,000 so far. Which by the way is taxed, so it’s not $1,000. And then you spread $1,000 over the course of the year — to think of about how much that is — of course they get it all at once. But I’m not sure that $1,000 (which is taxed, taxable) goes very for almost anyone,” Schultz said at a town hall last week.
These comments from the leaders of the Democratic Party are not new. While it may seem like pocket change to those with six-figure salaries, $1,000 can go a very long way for the middle class.
For the majority of Americans, an additional $1,000 would be a welcomed gift. It could go a long way with bills, food, or it could even allow for a good time. Some suggestions for what you could spend if given that money include a four night trip at Disney World’s Port Orleans Resort, or a semi-automatic .308 Winchester. But if you’re thinking of being more responsible with an influx of money, a Princeton review full SAT prep class or healthy groceries for a month could be in order.
