Reports of Mark Cuban sexually assaulting a woman in 2011 surfaced this week after a bombshell report Tuesday.
According to the Willamette Week, a woman met Cuban at a bar in Portland in 2011 and asked him for a photograph. When they posed for the picture, however, she claims Cuban forced his hands down her pants and sexually assaulted her.
She filed a police report, which prompted an investigation. Authorities eventually decided that there was not enough evidence to back up the claims and the case was dropped. Cuban, for his part, did supposedly hire an attorney in Oregon and several witnesses were questioned.
Cuban has since publicly denied the allegations. In an email to the Associated Press, Cuban simply wrote “it didn’t happen.”
It all slipped under the radar until this week. Incidentally, a recent article in Sports Illustrated depicted the Mavericks “culture [as] rife with misogyny and predatory sexual behavior: alleged public fondling by the team president; outright domestic assault by a high-profile member of the Mavs.com staff.” Cuban has also come under recent fire for telling his team to lose games and was fined $600,000.
It’s important to note that the sexual assault allegation leveled against Cuban in 2011 is alleged and there’s no significant proof that this ever occurred. But in the era of #MeToo, nobody is safe and Cuban might now have to answer some difficult questions.
