President Donald Trump has officially appointed John Bolton as his new national security advisor, replacing H.R. McMaster.
Trump tweeted the news that he was ousting McMaster on Thursday evening, explaining that Bolton would be taking the role effective April 9, 2018.
“I am pleased to announce that, effective 4/9/18, @AmbJohnBolton will be my new National Security Advisor,” Trump said. “I am very thankful for the service of General H.R. McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend. There will be an official contact handover on 4/9.”

The announcement comes just about a week after Trump decided to fire Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
Bolton has previously served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and is currently is a Fox News contributor.
