Michigan State University (MSU) claimed Wednesday that former sports doctor Larry Nassar didn’t violate National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies.

MSU claimed that despite Nassar abusing 25 student athletes he did not violate NCAA rules, according to a letter the university circulated Wednesday. MSU received a letter from the NCAA in January inquiring if Nassar violated any rules, following his prison sentence for sexually abusing hundreds of girls and young woman.

Michigan State attorney Mike Glazier issued a response through a letter to the NCAA on March 22, finding that Nassar did not violate any rules, The Lansing Journal reported. The letter was first made public by the university Wednesday.

“I trust that you will see that the University is in no way attempting to sidestep the issues facing it, and that if the University had any reason to believe the criminal conduct of Nassar also implicated NCAA rules violations, the University would accept responsibility in that area as well,” Glazier wrote. “However, after a thorough and analytic examination of NCAA legislation, and an application of the known facts associated with the Nassar matter to NCAA legislation, the University finds no NCAA rules violations,” Glazier wrote and also noted that 267 women, including 25 student athletes are suing the school, alleging that Nassar sexually abused them.

Nassar’s former boss and MSU’s former dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, William Strampel, also is accused of sexually assaulting five women.
