A Vincent Van Gogh landscape painting of the Dutch countryside sold for millions at an auction in Paris Monday.
Van Gogh’s 1882 painting “Fishing Net Menders in the Dunes” was sold for $8.27 million, the Daily Mail reported. This is one of the tormented artist’s early works that depicts peasant women working on a field complete with a cloudy sky in the Netherlands.

“It’s fetched such a high price [compared to the estimate] because there are hardly any Van Goghs on the market,” said the auctioneer, Francis Briest, according to the BBC. Van Gogh’s renowned “Still Life, Vase with Daisies, and Poppie” painting went for an astonishing $61.8 million in 2014. However, this is nothing compared to his “Portrait of Dr Gachet” which went for $82.5 million in 1990.
