A New York professor said it was good news Thursday that Democrats did not contribute money to help Republicans who had their window smashed.

City University of New York (CUNY) professor Angus Johnston was responding to an incident in which an individual threw bricks through the windows of the Republican Party’s Lincoln, Nebraska, office.

“#goodnewsthursday,” he tweeted, pasting what appeared to be a text message exchange between a friend and himself.

“Pretty amazing that a GOP window was smashed and Democrats didn’t start a GoFundMe in seconds,” his apparent friend said.

“Honestly the most hopeful sign I’ve seen in months,” Johnston appeared to reply.

The professor had previously seemed to joke about the incident Wednesday night.

“Police are looking to question a giant cartoon kitty cat,” he tweeted. “A giant REPUBLICAN kitty cat, given the glass spray pattern.”

The unidentified vandal or vandals caused around $1,200 in damage to the Republican offices, The Associated Press reported Tuesday. The party also found “ABOLISH ICE” spray-painted on a sidewalk by the office. Nebraska GOP Executive Director Kenny Zoeller said that the damage did not surpass his office’s $5,000 insurance deductible, but that party activists have begun donating to repair the building. Johnston did not reply immediately to a request for comment. The professor allegedly obtained over 28,000 “fight fascism” stickers made around the time of President Donald Trump’s inauguration and has written articles entitled “‘Trigger Warnings’ Don’t Interfere With Learning, They Enhance It” and “Why We Should Lower the Voting Age in America”.
